Dear Mum,
I hope this letter finds you smiling and in the best of health. I also hope Papa is doing well too. For quite some time, I have been in constant dilemma regarding my decisions for my career. I have been always in a habit to make you concern regarding my problems. I’m sorry for troubling you unnecessarily all the time. But to me, you are the only person to whom I look up for all types of advises and counselling for my problems.
I am aware of the fact that both of you desire for me to become a good doctor. You also wish that I gain recognition in the medical field. But mother, medicine is not really my cup of tea. I don’t want myself to drag in doing good in a field that does not pique my interest. I always wanted to be an actor since my school days. The profession of acting these days is gaining recognition and credibility in comparison to older times. It is due to the incessant development in technology that is making the profession safe, creative and open to various experiments. Therefore, I feel that both you and papa need not worry for me choosing this profession for my career.
It is high time now that you should be acquainted with certain truths of my life. I would like to reveal to you as how my interest in acting was born and what are the other activities that made acting compelling to me. The school has played a pivotal role in being instrumental for realizing my talent and interest. Therefore, more or less, majority of the credit goes to my school for stimulating my interest in this field. As St. Peter’s is a protestant convent school under ICSE Board, we frequently used to stage plays of different authors like William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe and other well-known playwrights on different occasions like Christmas, Teacher’s Day, and competitions. Participating in most of the plays in different roles aroused my interest and made me enthusiastic to take up lucrative acting roles in future.
From my school days, I embraced acting passionately and wanted to excel in the field. I am also grateful to you for permitting me to participate in such events that aided me in recognizing my acting talent. I also realized that not everyone is blessed with such exciting and challenging talents. Also, not everyone gets the opportunity to study in such good institutions that help students to discover and realize their talents. To me acting comes as effortlessly and swiftly as Shakespeare writing romantic comedies for his English audience. Whenever I am acting, I find myself confident and creative, utilizing my full potential, that always results in good outcomes. Moreover, it is always said that one must enjoy one’s own profession. Mom, I enjoy acting to the lees. I have decided to pursue 3-year Diploma in Dramatic Arts (equivalent to graduation) from National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi which is India’s most prestigious acting institute in India for proper training. You are quite aware of the fact, that I am a well-organized person who is committed both to health and career. I will not let you worry regarding my health as I know the fact that acting is quite demanding. In order to avoid financial toll, I will take part-time jobs or freelance projects if needed to support myself in initial days. I would also be punctual, responsible and respectful towards every opportunity—big or small.
I understand that acting as a career can be uncertain, competitive, and emotionally demanding. However, I am fully prepared to face these challenges with maturity and focus. I plan to pursue formal training, maintain a disciplined routine, and constantly work to improve my skills. I will take every audition seriously, handle rejection positively, and stay grounded without taking shortcuts. I will also respect time, value small beginnings, and continue learning through books, performances, and observation. Acting is my passion, but I am ready to pursue it responsibly and with all my heart.
Therefore, I only need you and papa to understand my viewpoint and ask for emotional support and blessings. I would like to make you all proud in the future.
Thanking You,
